Celebrate Earth Day’s big 50th birthday with an inspired colored popcorn!
Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. It is especially important for kids to understand the responsibility of taking care of the Earth, and what better way to learn but with a batch of Earth Day Popcorn!
This Earth Day blue and green candied popcorn using Kool-Aid and corn syrup giving it a thin hard slightly sweet taste in Earth Day colors and is perfect for the day’s 50th birthday celebrations, world-wide!
You will need to double this recipe to make the Earth Day popcorn in blue and green. I used white popcorn so the color would be nice and bright.
I used lemon-lime for the green color and Berry Blue for the blue popcorn.
If you find that the color isn’t as intense after adding the kool-aid use a few drops of food coloring to give it just a little boost!
Here is how you make it:
Ingredients
12 cups popped popcorn- lemon-lime for the green color and Berry Blue for the blue
⅓ cup butter
½ cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 package of Kool-Aid
½ tsp baking soda
Instructions
Preheat oven to 225 degrees.
Place it in a pot over medium-low heat. Add corn syrup and sugar and stir until butter is melted. Bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and continue to simmer. Stir continually for 3 minutes.
Remove pot from stove and stir in Kool-Aid and baking soda. Add a few drops of food coloring if needed. Mix week and pour over popcorn. Stir until popcorn is evenly coated.
Spread popcorn out onto a baking sheet and cook at 225 degrees for 40 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes.
Cool completely and then break into pieces and enjoy with the kids or just the kid in you!
